Sunbrella® care
General or Light Cleaning
- Brush off any loose dirt
- Prepare a cleaning solution of 1/4 cup (62.5ml) mild soap to 16 cups (4 litres) of luke warm water (less than 38°C).
- Use a sponge or soft bristle brush to clean.
- Allow cleaning solution to soak into fabric.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Allow fabric to dry.
- May not require re-treatment depending on the age of the fabric.
- Parasols may be hosed off while still on the frame and left open to dry.
Spot Cleaning
- Apply a light mist of our recommended cleaning solution using a spray bottle.
- Work the solution into the stain by lightly scrubbing the area with a sponge or very soft bristle brush.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Blot excess moisture with a clean, soft towel or sponge.
- Wet vacuum or blot excess water.
- Repeat these steps until stain is removed.
Heavy Cleaning For Stubborn Stains And Mildew
Sunbrella fabric does not promote mildew growth; however, mildew may grow on dirt and other foreign substances that are not removed from the fabric. Re-treatment of fabric for water and stain resistance will be necessary.
To clean mildew, or other stubborn stains:
Hand wash:
- Prepare a solution of 1 cup (250ml) of bleach and 1/4 cup (62.5ml) of mild soap to 16 cups (4 litres) of clean water.
- Spray on entire area and allow to soak into fabric.
- Scrub vigorously with a soft bristle brush, sponge or clean towel.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Allow fabric to dry.
- Never apply heat to Sunbrella fabric.
- Repeat if necessary.
Machine wash:
- Use mild soap and/or detergent- Ivory Snow, Dreft or Woolite.
- For heavier stains, add 1 cup (250ml) of bleach to wash.
- Wash and rinse thoroughly in cold to luke warm water (never more than 100°F/38°C)
- Air dry.
- Never apply heat to Sunbrella fabric.
If stain and/or mildew are severe, bleach quantities may be increased. Remember to protect the area around your Sunbrella fabric if using bleach solution. Carpet or other fabrics that are not Sunbrella may have an adverse reaction to the bleach.
Re-treating the fabric for ease of cleaning Sunbrella fabrics have a special finish that enhances water repellency. The finish is designed to last for several years of normal use, but may be refreshed after a thorough cleaning or extended use. We recommend 303 High Tech Fabric Guard™ as the preferred re-treatment product for Sunbrella fabrics. Available in-store at Teak & Mahogany.
Applying 303 High Tech Fabric Guard 303 should be applied to Sunbrella fabrics after each thorough cleaning, which typically removes the original finish and reduces the fabric's water repellency.
- Allow Sunbrella fabric to completely air dry.
- Apply 303 Fabric Guard in a well ventilated area following instructions on the container.
- Apply 303 in a thin, even coat and allow fabric to dry completely.
- Apply a second thin, even coating of 303. ( 2 light coatings are more effective in restoring fabric water resistance than a single heavy coating.)
- A 500ml bottle provides coverage of up to 5m2 of fabric.
Professional cleaners
In evaluating the services of a professional firm, you should inquire about the firm's experience in working with Sunbrella fabrics and knowledge of cleaning and re-treatment requirements.
*Do Not Dry Clean Sunbrella Fabrics.
Helpful Hints:
Protect the area around your Sunbrella fabric when using a bleach solution - bleach may discolour non-Sunbrella fabrics. Always rinse Sunbrella thoroughly to completely remove bleach. Sunbrella air-dries very quickly. Machine drying is not necessary.
If fabric has some wrinkling, use an iron, if necessary, but only on the synthetic* setting. As some irons exceed the recommended 100°F/38°C temperature on the synthetic setting, test a small inconspicuous area before ironing entire piece.
* Use of bleach and/or advanced age of the fabric application may impact the deterioration of the sewing thread and other non Sunbrella components.
* Synthetic fabric heat settings normally do not exceed 150°F/66°C.
Stainless Steel
The Stainless Steel has excellent forming and welding characteristics and is protected by a thin, invisible layer of Chromium Oxide. The 02 content of the atmosphere is normal enough to create and maintain this thin layer.
However, the surface may change if the Stainless Steel is exposed to organic contaminations such as salt water, rain, grease, oil, paint, fingerprints, glue residue and dirt that can cause corrosion. Stain may occur but it will not affect the durability of the product itself.
Cleaning will be necessary to restore an acceptable surface quality with regards to the corrosiveness of the environment, corrosion resistance of steel grade and aesthetic considerations. We recommend regular polishing to maintain the life span of your product.
Before shipping the product, we hand polish the Stainless Steel using a special polish pad.
Stainless Steel, especially when it is exposed as furniture should appear clean, smooth and faultless. It is corrosion resistant and is protected by a passive layer; a thin invisible surface layer that consists mainly of chromium oxide.
To keep your Stainless Steel in top condition, we recommend the following:
- For light stains and finger marks, use our green (dry) polish pad and brush the Stainless Steel in the same direction.
- For tougher stains, use the polish pad with strong Stainless Steel cleaner.
We carry the following care products to help you maintain your stainless steel.
- Stainless Steel Cleaner
Cleans & restores the new look of Stainless Steel.
- Rust Remover
Heavy duty remover, fast acting and easy to use.
- Rust Preventer
Helps keep Stainless Steel free from rust as it includes corrosion inhibitors which form an invisible shield to prevent corrosion.
- Green Brush Pad
Removes finger marks and restores shine of Stainless Steel while keeping it free of corrosive build-ups
* Please take note: Finger marks cannot be avoided on Stainless Steel.
Aristo Lamps & Torches
Copper Use a suitable polish to bring back the lustrous surface of the copper.
Steel To protect the surface against rust stains, use our green (dry) polish pad and brush the Stainless Steel in the same direction. For tougher stains, use the polish pad with strong Stainless Steel cleaner. Apply a thin layer and let it sit for 5 minutes, then gently wipe off the excess oil with a soft cloth. Let the lamp sit for 12 hours before use.
If rust has already appeared, apply a rust remover on a soft cloth and rub the spot with the rust stain until it is removed.
If the rust stain has been sitting for an extended period on the steel, use a stainless steel cleaner until the rust has been removed. Once the rust has been removed, treat the steel as described above to protect the surface against rust.
Poles The wooden poles are made from plantation hardwood. Like all natural wood, colour changes will occur. Revive the original colour of the pole by treating it with teak oil. Consult the label of the teak oil for best results.
Wicks Once the wick begins to fray replace it with a new wick. Using a frayed wick can have dangerous and have hazardous consequences.
Batyline® Fabric
Batyline® is an extremely durable and high quality material consisting of a polyester fiber covered by a coating of PVC, making it nearly impossible to tear.
It is resistant to:
- Rot & mildew
- UV radiation
- Fading (although like all materials left outdoors, slight discolouration is unavoidable over time.)
Maintenance Wash the mesh with a liquid dish detergent and water. Use a soft bristle brush, rinse and dry with a cloth to avoid water stains settling on the stainless steel frames.
Note: Direct contact against heat lamps, lights, or other heat sources should be avoided. Avoid sharp objects from coming in contact with the material, as it can be cut.
Viro® Fiber
Our wicker furniture is hand-woven with Viro fibre, a premium synthetic Polyethylene fiber. It is highly flexible and UV & weather resistant. 100% recyclable and resistant to chlorine and salt water.
Maintenance Use a wet cloth and mild soap to clean the furniture. |
